Beginning Pool
The beginning of a successful pool shot requires a consistent pre-shot
routine. We believe in natural comfortable positioning that allows
success, rather than a pat stance that works for everyone. Different
body styles require different stances. Nature tells you what that
stance is. We check it only to remove bad habits or counterproductive
positions. This will be a strange concept to those who don't study the game scientifically. There are basically only two dominant muscles in a perfect pool stroke. Everything else plays a minor supporting role. Therefore all of our students find us eliminating movement rather than adding silly stuff that just proves to confuse you. Truthfully you are the ones who have to eliminate the crippling extra movement and the only way to do that is to see yourself on video. Makes you mad and you do something about it with our help. Muscle memory techniques are employed to make you have a natural dependable stroke. We have a secret stroke smoothing tool that will kill all peripheral movement with just a few weeks practice. What good does it do to just bust balls around a table all day long? You see people doing it all the time and then ask, "why cant I get any better?" There is a correct way to practice and it is a little more complicated than striking balls. Common sense tells you I'm right. Set yourself up to win and will either win or play well trying. What else do we play this silly game for anyway? Don't play your opponent ... play you! The only person who can beat you is you. We call this concept "Stringing up the balls." Speed is unfortunately the most unforgiving part of playing pool. Unfortunately because it is also the hardest technique to master. We don't have any magic for speed control so we try to teach the best ways to staying away from speed crucial shots. Sounds defeatist but playing away from trick shots is what makes the Pros what they are today. You probably never heard it put quite that way but common sense is the only way to improve your game. There are players out there that are amazing at speed control. They will be the first to tell you they would rather have not had to shoot a perfect shot to win and will also tell of the ones they missed. Speed control will be the last phase of your game to come around to your expectations. A basic overview of English and how it affects your success on the pool table. How spin works and how to control it. Follow, Stop and Draw are covered also. Good shape is the result of a recipe of speed, spin, aim, stroke and intelligence. The better control of the ingredients the better your shot works. This portion of training shows you how mental control is the essential element to success on the pool table. Certain predictable things happen when a ball is set into motion. The ball trails a predictable path which can be adjusted from table to table if you know how. You consider the physical characteristics of a ball in motion or a ball contacting another ball or rail in the planning phase of your routine. You got to know them to consider them. If you know they are there you see these shots over and over again. If you don't know what I'm talking about you probably need my services. This is a big game booster. When you plan a shot are you sure you are planning it right? Are you considering the implications of hero shots and how they affect your overall game? Percentage pool is an immediate way to improve your game. Half the games you win should be attributable to a good safety shot. Nothing is more damaging to your opponents position than handing you the ball to place wherever you want it. Get a ball in hand and you should get the win. Different shots require different aiming techniques. It's up to the individual which technique works best for certain shots. Its our job to make sure you know them and can use them to your advantage. There are only a few good percentage masse shots. You might as well know them. There are some good jumpshots, even in percentage play. This is the stuff that makes you start feeling like a pool player. It is the best source of enjoyment when done well. Sometimes there are a variety of ways to manage a table. Sometimes there are only a few. That's when the rubber meets the road for a pool player. Select the right patterns and you will not only play better but enjoy the game more. You have to get all your balls clear before you can shoot them easily in the hole. Do it early and do it often but most importantly do it right. Eight Ball, Nine Ball, Straight Pool, Billiards, and One Pocket are all covered. You need to know the games to play them. You need to play all the games to know them. Each game requires a different portfolio of shots. Knowing all the games makes you know all the shots. Some One Pocket shots are devastating in Eight Ball...etc...etc. Playing all Phases of the Game Internalizing all the steps to a good shot is the hardest hill to climb for a good player who wants to get better. The phases he or she leaves out are the phases that keep a good player from excellence. Most longtime players fall into this category. They just can't take the step. The predominant reason is that they think it's their shooting that is killing them when in reality its just a matter of organization. As I said earlier speed kills. Finesse is the only way to control your speed. Chuck Musick will virtually mesmerize you with easier ways to do things with finesse rather than force. A finesse shot is the best choice in most cases where the only other option is multi rails. If you know the shots you can use them. Shots Few Know and Fewer can Shoot Chuck Musick is a shot master. He has played all the games and plays them all well. He will show you shots that make perfect sense if you just practice them a little. I am not talking about any trick shots. I'm talking about percentage smart shots. You don't know a lot of them because you haven't played all the games for the 40 years. One pocket master Chuck Musick will show you multiple ways to become proficient at banking and kicking. Banking and kicking are crucial for Eight ball and Nine Ball but are mandatory for One Pocket. The fine points are demonstrated discussed and practiced until you find them familiar enough to take them home and practice them. Fine english, stun, follow, creep and draw will become a natural part of your game. I am of the opinion that no one ever masters speed. I think they just hold it in check with some methods of speed control that really work. Knowing what speed can do is half the battle. Playing percentages when shooting a speed shot can save you a lot of headaches. Learn to turn your game on and off. Focus training using advanced self hypnosis techniques. MORE
